The policy speech made by Prime Minister Abe on 26th September 2016 at the 192nd Session of the Diet was full of old-fashioned ideology. In this film, Niwa asked a person who doesn’t understand Japanese to speak the original text of this speech using a phonetic translation. By separating the intended meaning of speech from the understanding of the speaker, this project explores what is behind the words and what understanding itself is supposed to mean in the post-truth era.
