Pawilon V refers to a time of wild inflation in the 1990s, when the value of the Polish currency suddenly collapsed. The socioeconomic impact of this hyperinflation was catastrophic for the nation, with the effects felt most acutely by the working class, left to navigate this crisis on their own. Pawilon V captures the momentum of this collapse: rays shoot out of a smaller inside panel, piercing through images of the council estate, building in a domino effect to a fiery explosion on the exterior wing. The archival image of this fire is contemporary to this moment: as money lost its value and people lost their employment seemingly overnight, a large fire broke out in the fields surrounding the pawilon. One of the neighbors photographed it; an apocalyptic vision, matching the invisible forces radically transforming their social landscape.
