The conversation will centre on Snowden’s first UK solo exhibition of paintings M Street on White from the seminal M Street series.
About Sylvia Snowden
Sylvia Snowden was born in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1942, but spent her childhood in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the age of 14, she and her family moved to Washington, D.C.. Snowden studied in the art department at Howard University. She has taught at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY), Howard University (Washington, D.C.) and Yale University (New Haven, CT). In 2023 Snowden’s work was featured in Action, Gesture, Paint: Women Artists and Global Abstraction 1940-70 at Whitechapel Gallery, London, UK, and Fondation Vincent van Gogh, Arles, France. Snowden had a solo show Shell; Glimpses at Rubell Museum DC, Washington, D.C. in 2022.
About Laura Smith
Laura Smith is Director of Collection and Exhibitions at The Hepworth Wakefield. Smith previously held curatorial roles at Whitechapel Gallery, Tate Britain, Tate St Ives and Nottingham Contemporary. She is a Trustee at IntoArt, which supports people with learning disabilities to be recognised as established artists.
