07 October 2022 Wednesday 12 October in Palazzo Loggia a meeting to present Victoria Lomasko's exhibition that will be the focus of the Peace Festival next November.
The Municipality of Brescia, the Brescia Musei Foundation and the Brescia Peace Festival from Friday 11 November 2022 until Sunday 8 January 2023 present for the first time in Italy the solo exhibition of Russian dissident artist Victoria Lomasko. The exhibition 'Victoria Lomasko. The Last Soviet Artist', curated by Elettra Stamboulis, will be held in the exhibition spaces of the Museo di Santa Giulia in Brescia and will be one of the cornerstones of the Festival of Peace to be held in Brescia next November. The exhibition is the third act of the research, curated by Elettra Stamboulis, undertaken by Fondazione Brescia Musei in 2019 to highlight the social aspect of contemporary art. Following Zehra Doğan's exhibition, 'We will also have better days. Works from Turkish prisons!", and continued in 2021 with Badiucao's solo exhibition, !China is not near. Works by a dissident artist!", the solo exhibition featuring Victoria Lomasko also emphasises art as a tool in the struggle against denied rights. Victoria Lomasko is regarded by critics and the Anglo-Saxon press as the most important Russian graphic social artist, although she is still largely unknown to the Italian public. She is also known to the international public at large for her editorial activity with which she has for years denounced the systematic violation of the most elementary rights perpetrated in Putin's Russia. A documentary was made about her, The Last Soviet Artist directed by musician and composer Geraint Rhys, and she has been interviewed repeatedly by the international media. Her works have been exhibited at the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, which acquired part of the archive, in Basel, London and is currently a guest at Documenta in Kassel. On 5 March, only a few days after Moscow troops invaded Ukraine, he left Russia.
On 12 October at 6 p.m., a talk open to the public will be held in Palazzo Loggia to present the exhibition 'Victoria Lomasko. The Last Soviet Artist" in which the Russian artist and Baduciao, the Chinese dissenting artist already protagonist of the exhibition hosted in Brescia last year, will take part in a symbolic handover under the banner of human rights.
The meeting, moderated by Stefano Karadjov, director of Fondazione Brescia Musei, will be attended by: Emilio Del Bono, Mayor of Brescia, who has supported the Art and Rights format with conviction for the past three years; Laura Castelletti, Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Brescia; Francesca Bazoli, President of the Brescia Musei Foundation; Roberto Cammarata, President of the Brescia City Council and the Festival of Peace; and Elettra Stamboulis, curator of the exhibition cycle
The meeting will also be an opportunity to discuss how Badiucao's recent exhibition was read by the international press as a unique cultural episode at a global level and to present a selection of works by Victoria Lomasko as well as a short excerpt from the documentary The Last Soviet Artist, in which she is the protagonist: all works that will then be on display, where Lomasko will create site-specific works, an aspect that will strongly characterise the exhibition, which will be a true creation of art itself and on which the artist, who has already been in town since last week, has started working in the ateliers of the Santa Giulia Museum.
