Victoria Lomasko premiere at Rich Mix, London

'UK premiere: Tree of Violence + Q&A on Thursday 21 March at Rich Mix, London'
11 March 2023 Victoria Lomasko is profiled in a new feature film, Tree of Violence, as part of the acclaimed documentary series Draw for Change!, created by Vincent Coen & Guillaume Vandenberghe.

Book tickets here for the premiere at Rich Mix in London on Thursday 21 March, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker Anna Moiseenko and Rachel Denber, Deputy Director of the Europe and Central Asia Division at Human Rights Watch.

Lomasko became one of the most renowned dissident voices in the highly censored environment of contemporary Russia through works such as her seminal graphic novel Other Russias, published in seven languages since 2017. Fueled by a palpable sense of impending catastrophe, a year before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the artist embarks on a profound exploration of the intricate connections between domestic and state-sponsored violence. Crafting a historical narrative that spans from the protest-filled winter of 2021 to the winter of 2022, Lomasko distills her discoveries into the monumental mural, The Changing of Seasons (2022), presented first at the Philippe Vandenberg Foundation, where she found refuge in the studio space in Molenbeek, and then at GC Nekkersdal in Brussels, Belgium.

“This stellar combination of motion picture and animation tells the story of contemporary Russia—entrenched rights abuses and violence, lawlessness and impunity, and evisceration of civil society by a ruthless government—through the eyes of a brilliant graphic reporter. Tree of Violence is a work of art and a harrowing portrait of tyranny.” - Tanya Lokshina, Associate Director, Europe and Central Asia Division, Human Rights Watch

Tree of Violence is part of the 28th edition of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival London.
