Vinca Petersen: Studio Sale

I am 51, and in 2022, I found myself faced with one of those rare opportunities to completely change the direction of ones life. My son turned 18 and left school, and my long-term relationship ended. I was free to make choices based on my own desires. I chose to sell everything I owned and move to the remote Isle of Skye in the Hebrides. This would have been a significant decision on its own, but to add to the intensity of the move, I decided to build myself a home with my own hands… and, as it turned out, with the hands of many others.

Two years on, I live in a caravan on a tenanted croft – a small farm – and am nearing completion of a straw bale house. The process has been incredibly good for my soul; the hard physical work, the beauty of the landscape, and the creative process of designing and building a house, all while working alongside people eager to learn about building with their own hands, has been incredibly rewarding.

As the house build is almost finished, I now focus on the next chapter: converting the roof space into a studio and storage for my vast archive of photographs. To fund this project, I am excited to release a special series of affordable prints. In the spirit of the moment, and in collaboration with Edel Assanti, who have generously waived their commission, all proceeds will go directly towards building my studio. So here they are, my new series of prints for all!
